In 1867 Joseph Stannah first opened his doors for business in Bankside, London. Nearly 150 years later, we are still a British, family owned and run business, managed by Joseph’s great, great, grandchildren: Patrick, Jon, Nick and Alastair.
In the 1860s Joseph designed and manufactured hoists and cranes to move ships’ cargo, introducing passenger lifts around the turn of the century. Then in 1975, alongside our commercial lifts, we began to apply our engineering expertise and knowledge to design, manufacture and installation of stairlifts.
In 2011 we produced our 500,000th stairlift which was commemorated with a visit from HRH The Prince of Wales – a fantastic day for all of us at Stannah.
2015 brought more exciting milestones including the manufacture of our 600,000th stairlift, exports to over 46 countries worldwide alongside celebrating 40 years of manufacturing stairlifts.
And here’s to our next milestone – 150 years of the whole business in 2017!
