Checklist when choosing a stairlift provider

Choosing a stairlift can be a daunting prospect, especially when there are a variety of different products available. We hope this checklist will help you to make a more informed decision about which supplier and product is right for you. You may have more questions — write them down and don't be afraid to ask the consultants when they visit. It is your home and money after all!

  • Make sure the representative carefully assesses your specific needs as well as the staircase.
  • Get an official written quotation for the entire cost of the stairlift, including installation, on company headed paper. Do not accept an estimate.
  • Never pay the full price of the stairlift before it is fully fitted and tested.
  • Ensure that a deadline for installation is written down in your quotation.
  • You may be exempt from paying VAT so make sure you ask the representative about whether or not you are eligible.
  • Ask what services are available after installation and what guarantees come with the product. As a minimum, there should be a 24-hour manned helpline which offers a repair service in case of any malfunction.
  • A stairlift should be serviced once a year, so ensure that the supplier has a national network of service centres.
  • Make sure a company representative leaves a card with personal details in case you want to ask anything else.
