- Products
- Our products are fully approved and certified to BS5776 for powered stairlifts. IMPORTANT NOTE: under annex A, if a stairlift is to be installed into premises other than a single family dwelling, the building owner is advised to take professional consultation on the suitability of a stairlift for the application. This advice encompasses fire regulations, environmental health, building control and with registered homes, the local health authority.
- Our on-line sale of products is intended for UK domestic customers only, if you are planning to use them for business purposes please make sure that you are covered by appropriate insurance.
- Order process
- All orders that you place on this website will be subject to acceptance in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- The ‘Order’ stage sets out the final details of your requirement. If you elect to order we will send to you an order acknowledgement email. Please note that this email is not an order confirmation or order acceptance from Stannah.
- The order states a price for the stairlift including fitting. The quoted price for the stairlift includes the delivery and installation of the stairlift at the installation address. None of the prices include VAT unless otherwise stated.
- The quoted price reflects costs savings we can make through direct ordering on-line. The same specification stairlift cannot be offered for the same price through any other channel.
- VAT will be zero rated for end users who have a medical condition that qualifies according to VAT Notice 701/7(2002). You must specify whether the end user qualifies or not prior to ordering and ensure they sign the ‘VAT Zero Rating Certificate’ (available on the Order screen) and return to us prior to installation.
- Acceptance of your order and the completion of the contract between you and us will take place when we have received payment for the products ordered unless we have notified you that we do not accept your order or you have cancelled it (please refer to Returns and refunds).
- The contract shall consist of our Quotation, these terms and conditions, your order and our acceptance thereof and these terms shall not be varied. Nor shall any other terms and/or conditions apply to the contract unless agreed to in writing by us. Our Quotation is provided on the basis that you are satisfied that your staircase and surrounding structure is sound and suitable for a stairlift installation.
- We do not file details of your order for you to subsequently access direct on this website, and therefore, please print out these terms and conditions and the order acknowledgement for your own records. If you wish to obtain specific details of your previous orders please Contact us.
- Payment
- We require a 25% deposit at the time of ordering. The remaining 75% payment will be required upon the installation of your stairlift. If you are paying by card we take payment from your card at the time we receive your order and payment has been authorised. We will then schedule the production of your stairlift. If you are sending payment/payment details by post we will schedule the production of your stairlift once payment has been verified. In the event that we are unable to supply the goods, we will inform you of this as soon as possible. A full refund will be given where you have already paid for the goods.
- The price you pay is the price (plus VAT if applicable) on the order.
- Value Added Tax at the current rate will be added to all orders where the end user cannot confirm that they have a medical condition that qualifies them for zero rated VAT according to VAT Notice 701/7(2002). Where such a claim is made that is in doubt or unfounded the VAT must be paid before installation can take place.
- Title to any products you order on this website shall pass to you on installation of the products provided that we have processed and received payment in full for the products.
- In the event of late payment, Stannah reserve the right to charge interest on the whole of the outstanding amount (including VAT) from the date payment was due until actually made in accordance with “The Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998”.
- All prices will be subject to variation in respect of any additional costs arising by virtue of any statute, regulations or orders issued by any Government Department or other duly constituted authority.
- Delivery and Installation
- This website is only for delivery and installation of products to customers in mainland UK addresses. We cannot deliver to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Orkney, Shetland and Scottish Islands or BFPO addresses
- Any additional work that we have agreed to do is detailed on the Quotation and we will undertake to complete this work at the agreed price. Our offer to provide an electrical power supply to the stairlift is subject to the satisfactory condition of the existing wiring in your property. Where earthing arrangements are found not to be in accordance with the Regulations then additional work will be necessary before the installation can be put into service which may involve a further charge. Failure to allow our electrician to complete this earthing work may result in the non-installation of our stairlift.
- If you have chosen not to purchase the electrical power supply for the stairlift from us, it then becomes your responsibility to ensure a switched, fused spur is installed by a qualified electrician prior to installation of the stairlift.
- At all times we will employ a Sub-contractor who is qualified to undertake the work that is required (Power Supply). However, as a result of this work it may be necessary for you to carry out redecoration or other remedial work. All costs associated with this work will be entirely at your own expense.
- Sometimes a handrail needs to be removed to accommodate the stairlift installation. Normally we advise that you should arrange for a local tradesman to carry out this task. We can remove your hand rail as a courtesy service at no cost to yourself, but this is limited to removal only and we cannot carry out reinstatement work such as replastering and redecorating and also we cannot refit the handrail to another location. (This work could, however, be done by a suitably qualified Sub-contractor at an extra cost if required.) You must contact us prior to installation if you require this service.
- Upon successful verification of order we will arrange for a Sales Consultant to visit the installation address to verify the suitability of the site. Delivery times and completion times shall run from the date of receipt of the Sales Consultant's verification details enabling manufacture to proceed. We shall not be liable for any delays due to lack of availability of labour, or materials or matters beyond our control. Indications of delivery times on this web site are estimates only. You will be contacted by our installation department to arrange a specific, mutually convenient date for installation.
- If, through no fault of Stannah, final adjustments cannot be made when installation is otherwise complete such adjustments will be completed within 10-15 working days.
- Warranty, Extended Warranty and Servicing
- We guarantee to rectify at our cost, any defects arising from faulty materials or workmanship for the specified guarantee period from the date of installation. Batteries for D.C. stairlifts are guaranteed for three years. This includes 24-hour cover for breakdowns, 365 days a year.
- Faults due to negligence, misuse, wilful or accidental damage by others, or any other cause beyond our control are not subject to the terms of our guarantee.
- An extended guarantee is offered at the point of sale at a discounted rate and to give our customers peace of mind. However, in order to offer these discounted rates we are unable to offer a refund at any time during the guarantee period.
- RESTRICTION OF SUBSEQUENT SERVICING — We will be responsible for regular servicing of your stairlift after the guarantee period ONLY if you have first signed a Service Agreement with us.
- Cancellations and Returns
- If you purchased a stairlift and associated services through this website and you are a consumer you have the right to cancel your order with us under ‘The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000’ up to 7 days after our order confirmation or up to the start of installation whichever is the sooner. Beyond these rights we will accept your cancellation up to the working day preceding installation if this is after the 7 day statutory right.
- You must inform us of your intention to cancel by writing to Customer Services at the address below or emailing Customer Services (see Contact Us).
- If you wish to return the stairlift after installation we will charge a recovery fee of £125 for straight stairlifts, plus the cost of any materials and services which cannot be reallocated to another contract. Items which are chargeable would be work at the premises to accommodate a stairlift such as electrical, carpentry and general builders work already carried out (as specified on the Quotation), the installation costs (nominally £150 for a straight stairlift) and any item specifically manufactured. We reserve the right to inspect the stairlift itself and deem it ‘Second Hand’ if its condition is not ‘as delivered’, in this case we will not be able to accept the cancellation but we will make a reasonable offer to buy back the stairlift based on the condition and saleability.
- Stannah Lift Services Ltd operates a buyback policy. The second hand value of a stairlift could be as low as 10% to 5% of the original purchase price and for older models there may be no value. A copy of our “Consumer Guide to second hand stairlift values” is available on request.

- Suffered or incurred by that party arising out of or in connection with the provisions of any matter under these terms and conditions.
- Notwithstanding the above, subject to Section 8.1 Stannah's aggregate liability (whether in contract, tort or otherwise) for loss or damage shall in any event be limited to a sum equal to the amount paid or payable by you for the product(s) in respect of one incident or series of incidents attributable to the same clause.
- This clause 8 does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer, nor does it affect your contract cancellation rights.
- We will take all reasonable precautions to keep the details of your order and payment secure, but, unless we are negligent, we cannot be held liable for any losses caused as a result of unauthorised access to information provided by you.

- No delay or failure by Stannah to exercise any powers, rights or remedies under these terms and conditions will operate as a waiver of them nor will any single or partial exercise of any such powers, rights or remedies preclude any other or further exercise of them. Any waiver to be effective must be in writing and signed by an authorised representative of Stannah.
- Under no circumstances shall we be liable for consequential damage or loss of any nature caused, or contributed to, by any defect or failure (whether partial or complete) of any part, material or design which was not wholly manufactured by us and which we could not reasonably have been expected both to inspect and exhaustively test. We shall not be responsible after delivery for damage to materials supplied or to work done by us occasioned by any cause not wholly within our control.
